A computer repair job can be tricky to find, especially in the suburbs where residents usually don’t live.
With that in mind, CBC News spoke to some of the best computer repair shops in the GTA.
The Computer Repair Shop on Queen Street In Scarborough, Ontario, we have a computer repair shop called the Computer Repair, where people can repair their computers.
“I like the fact that it’s not like a service center, where you go in and they’re going to fix it,” said co-owner and co-manager Jason Schmitz.
We have a team of people, who are trained to do this kind of repair.
We’re trained by people who work for companies like Dell, Microsoft and Acer.
And then we’ll do it, and it’s a very fast process, which is great.
“The shop has been around for two decades, but the new owners are hoping to grow.
It’s not something that is new to us, but it’s something that we’re hoping to bring to the table.””
We’ve never had to deal with that before,” said Schmitzer.
“It’s not something that is new to us, but it’s something that we’re hoping to bring to the table.”
He said that the shop’s clients come from all walks of life, from retirees to students.
Some of the clients have had to switch jobs, but that’s not always an issue.
And the owners say they do it to be helpful.
“The goal is to give people a quick and efficient fix,” said Adam Crouch.
Crouch and his wife, Heather, are from Toronto, and the couple decided to make this business a way to give back to the community.
“When we started it, we didn’t even know where to start,” said Crouch of the original idea.
“I thought it would be really fun, to bring people together and share a little bit of something that they love,” said Heather Crouch, “to just show them that we can do something for each other.”
The two of them started out by making a lot of custom computer parts and now they’re expanding their business to include electronics, as well.
Schmitz said the shop will have to hire new employees as they grow.
“Right now, we’re hiring six people,” said he.
“I hope that we get to 100, maybe 110, so we can hire more people, and we can bring more jobs to the city.”
A computer repair can cost anywhere from $250 to $3,000.
It may take weeks for a computer to be fixed.
“There’s no real point in spending $2,000 to fix your computer,” said Chris Burda.
“If you’re doing something like a small house, or if you’re trying to make repairs on a car, it’s just not worth it.”
With a job like that, Schmitzz and Crouch are just happy to have the option of doing repairs for less.
“What we’re trying is to take it to the next level,” said Burdas, who works as a contractor.
“We want to do the best job possible, so if we can make it cheaper, cheaper, faster, cheaper and faster.”
